Texas Railroad Commission in Sights of Need to Know

The PBS program Need to Know broadcast on December 17 included a segment on the gaping loopholes in the regulation of natural-gas pipelines. These loopholes have led to spectacular fires and explosions, some of them fatal.  Prominently featured are the three members of the Texas Railroad Commission, and the substantial campaign contributions they’ve received from the pipeline corporations they are supposed to be regulating.

Much of the segment’s material on the Railroad Commission draws on research performed by Public Citizen Texas, which is summarized in a report, “Drilling for Dollars: How Big Money Has a Big Influence at the Railroad Commission“, by Public Citizen researcher (and Coffee Party friend) Andy Wilson.
