Mark Strama files bill limiting political contributions and expenditures

If it becomes law, House Bill 226, filed by Texas House Representative Mark Strama of District 50, will limit contributions to candidates, and expenditures by candidates, for certain legislative and executive offices:

Office Contribution
statewide office $2,000 $5 million
state senator $1,000 $1 million
state representative $500 $500,000
member, State Board of Education $1,500 $1 million

This bill doesn’t provide any public funding, but it’s a good start. Praise to Rep. Strama for taking this initiative!
